"THE JETSONS: SEASON 2 VOLUME 2"
Who among us didn't grow up watching The Jetsons? The comic adventures of the space age family have been a cartoon staple since the 1960s. George, Jane, Judy, Elroy, and Astro are a permanent part of pop culture. Diehard fans of the show no doubt want to own every episode of the series for repeat viewings. That goal is now a possibility, thanks to the release of The Jetsons: Season 2 Volume 2, on DVD from Warner Home Video.
This three disc set contains twenty episodes from the show's second season, and of course, the entire first season is on DVD, as is Season 2 Volume 1. Many of the most popular and beloved episodes are contained in this set, including “The Swiss Family Jetsons,” “Judy's Elopement,” and “A Jetson Christmas Carol.” The installments hold up well. Watching them jogged memories of camping out in front of the television on Saturday mornings. Out of curiosity, I popped the disc in for my young son, who'd never seen the show before. After each episode, he promptly requested another. This is a testament to the enduring appeal of The Jetsons; the humor and visual style of the show are timeless.
Amazingly, the visual quality isn't too bad given how old the program is. I thought the DVD quality was surprisingly good. No, the images aren't pristine anymore, but I've seen old toons put on disc that look far worse. The sound quality naturally isn't up to the standards of modern animated fare, but that's not fatal. I mean, we all enjoyed these shows with something less than Dolby 5.1 surround sound, right? All things considered, it's a very respectable package.
Totaling 440 minutes, The Jetsons: Season 2 Volume 2 is exactly what you'd want it to be: an appealing trip down memory lane. If your love for George and his family is still strong today, this DVD set will be a nice addition to your home viewing library.
